If you fancy a change from the quiet life of the countryside - no problem. In Swiss Franconia you can make numerous interesting excursions without having to travel far. Nuremberg, a city in northern Bavaria, fascinatingly combines the medieval and the modern. From the Kaiserburg to the New Museum - a living city which tempts the visitor to sightsee, stroll and shop. Bamberg too, the former bishop's seat, has a charm all of its own, defined by the cathedral and the romantic fishing settlement known as "Little Venice". Bayreuth is also well worth a visit - and not just when the Wagner festival is on.
